a block west of the grand lake theater late this afternoon. amy holyfield to take us through what happened. >> reporter: even police at the scene tell me they haven't seen an accident this big before and it as miracle and it is amazing that everybody walked away. a police sargeant told me that the driver of the dump truck was just released from the hospital. the truck plowed into a row of cars sitting at a red light. the driver of the dump truck said his brakes failed and he told us about how he felt when heard everybody survived the crash. >> i was happy and hopefully i can get ahold of the people that got hurt and say sorry, something, anything, you know. i didn't do it on purpose, you know. but i ruined their day big-time, you know, their cars are smashed. >> reporter: the driver did not want to give his last name. this happened about 4:30 this afternoon at mcarthur boulevard and grand avenue at the grand avenue exit ramp off of 580. it has been closed ever since as officers try to clear the scene. they are hoping to get it open in the next few minutes and it looks like they are just ab

was shot and spoke to a man who lives across the street. he told us he heard 30 shots from what he thought was an assault rifle. and says he hit the ground immediately. it was around 10:30 last night in the 1200 block of 87th avenue. after getting up and making his way outside, he saw family members running out of that house, screaming, they shot mama. police are not releasing any information about the woman. but the neighbor told us, he thought she was in her 50s, living with her large family, along 87th avenue. the man said he had just moved into the neighborhood and hadn't had any problems. so this scared him. paramedics did take the woman to the hospital. and as i mentioned, she's in critical condition. we're live at police headquarters this morning. notice arrests so far. but again, we are waiting for an update from police. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> police in oakland are looking for two other leads. they both took place about 9:45 last night. and one of the shootings was deadly. the fatal shooting happened near a gunfight at 45th and international. polic

today. marcus stanley resigned after u.s. capital police say he was trying to carry marijuana into a senate building. politico reports stanley was going through security at the hart office building in washington two days ago when an officer saw him trying to conceal a green leafy substance, that turned out to be marijuana. >>> a big marijuana growing operation near san ramon has been busted. it was in a remote area in the lost trap pass regional wilderness. police found 1800 pot plants yesterday and arrested a pittsburg man they say was living there. another suspect got away. investigators estimate that marijuana is worth a quarter million dollars. >>> thousands of people waiting to learn if their homes are still standing in colorado. at least 135 homes have been destroyed by the wildfire near boulder. about 1,000 others are threatened. evacuation orders for some of the fire areas are expected to be lifted today. right now, 3500 people are out of of their homes. there's been some light rain overnight and cooler temperatures so that helped to get the fire 10% contained this mor

into the bay area with the storm passing us to the north. >> bp says it's willing to accept some of the responsibility for the gulf oil disaster but not all. today the british oil company released its own internal report on the worst environmental catastrophe in american history. bp says safety measures could and should of prevented the april 20th explosion that killed 11 workers and sent millions of gallons of crude oil into the gulf of mexico. the company says it shares the responsibility with two other companies halliburton and trans ocean trade there is no single action that caused the accident. a 195 page report identifies 8. tell you're in the one hour before the explosion. first of all a faulty cement seal installed by halliburton allowed hydrocarbon gases to enter the well a device known as the issue truck carrier failed to keep it from spreading. up on the service trans ocean technicians failed to notice the leak. the explosive hydrocarbons were not detected until they reached the riser from the sea floor. efforts to regain control of the well failed. this animation
